It shouldn't be difficult to knock your own up but not sure how much you would save. Simple enough to price up all the parts needed on HLG though. All you do with a QB kit is screw the boards to the heat sink, screws and holes are provided, screw in 4 little rubber feet so the leds are not getting touched while your have it on a flat surface, wire the plug for the driver, poke in the wires connecting each board to the other, You need to strip those wires with wire strippers, poke in the driver wires to the positive and negative connectors and then clip on the light hanging cables and its done.

The HLG V2 quantum board is a large, white spectrum, modern design LED grow light that effectively covers a 2 foot by 2 foot grow space. The light has 2 circuit boards, each containing total Samsung LMB diodes. The boards are placed on a larger aluminum panel with a dimmable Meanwell driver on the opposite side. One of the biggest differences with the quantum board led grow light design is the light color. I suppose it depends which grow light models you compare, but I compared the HLG V2 to 3 very popular non-quantum LED grow lights and the power consumption is almost exactly the same.

This light features a full white spectrum. You can check the spectral charts for each version here: k k. A lot of people focus on red and blue wavelengths for plant growing, which is great.

But studies have shown that white light spectrum yellow, orange and green wavelengths added to red and blue wavelengths are more beneficial than red and blue alone. This would explain recent the shift of more sophisticated growers to high quality white spectrum grow lights like the HLG grow lights.

The bottom chart is the HLG V2. Horticulture Lighting Group also posted PPFD readings from inside a 3x3 grow tent where the readings were considerably stronger. No TIM application is needed.Though the board has been pretty majorly overhauled, there are a few things that have carried over from the V1 to the V According to the data sheets, the LMB is capable of producing a whopping lumens per watt, compared to the already impressive lumens per watt from the LMC.

This beast of a chip is what the new QB V2 boards are built with. The 2 generations of boards have a very different look to them and the V1 looks quite blue in comparison. Samsung is now actually building these Quantum Boards in one of their manufacturing plants, which is a huge step up for HLG.

Not only have the chips been upgraded to LMB, but the fact that Samsung is building these boards guarantees that these diodes are from the best flux bin and the best voltage bin available within the LMB series. As you can see, there is a huge difference in voltage between the V1 and V2 boards.

At mA, the most common drive current of the boards, there is a difference of over 2 volts. Having a lower voltage on each board also opens up new possibilities for driver matching with the new V2s.

For example, you could not run 3x QB V1 boards on a Mean Well HLGH-C driver, which is a shame, because at V, its constant current region max is juuuuuuuuust shy of the total of 3 of these boards Efficiency also gets a nice bump, with the V2 sitting at 2.

The V2 emits about 13 more lumens per watt at this current. Here are our results:. Measurements were taken with a Kill-a-watt, a Flukeand a Fluke Both V1 and V2 boards were brand new and had never been used.

To summarize, our measurements showed a voltage difference of 2. Since current draw remained the same between both boards due to the fact that the driver was cranked, this voltage difference resulted in the V2 drawing 8 less watts from the wall under both conditions. Measurements were taken with an Apogee SQ and a Flukeand were taken with reflective walls in place.

Both boards were brand new and had only been run for an hour to conduct the voltage test shown above. Overall, there are no drawbacks to upgrading to the V2.

The new collaboration with Samsung will undoubtedly only serve to drive the quality and consistency of the entire HLG lineup upwards and hopefully will reduce the supply issues HLG has seen in the past. The V2 kits are available on Amazon so check them out there this is our affiliate link.

Rule of thumb for wattage is watts of good LED per square foot of growing area, but this is a highly personal question that you will get many answers for this question.

This is what I run with what I would consider success. HLGs website has a lot of the other info you are looking for. For driver recommendations, check on HLGs page. Here you will are the spec sheet showing the performance at different driving currents for the boards and driver recommendations scroll down a bit based on how many boards you are running, how hard you want to run them, and whether you are wiring in parallel or series.

Voltage multiplied by current will tell you the amount of output watts and for easy math you can always use 50 as your voltage for these boards. For example, run two s at mA and you will get around 50 watts of output 2 boards x 50 volts each x.

Running just two of these boards will never compete with an HLGno matter the driver. Also, most of these suggest 18g solid core wire for wiring the driver to the panels, which took me a while to find until I knew exactly what I was looking for. Ask for door bell wire at your local big box and that should be the stuff.

For now I would focus on hitting watts per square foot of canopy. The weight will come if everything else is dialed in. I truly cannot thank you enough Knowmebymyguacamole. I know HLG has a lot of info on their site but I was mostly looking for some reassurance and extra guidance from someone in the group that really knows what they are talking about. You painted a very clear and detailed picture. I will be buying the rest of the pieces and will be assembling it soon.
